This dinner party winner will have mum or your mates guessing whether they’re a top chef, a bowl of noodles or a spicy Marg. And right now, shipping is free.

“Oh, Dan is such a foodie.

Urgh. After all these years, is “foodie” the best my family and friends can do? What grinds my gears about that label is not that it’s untrue. Guys, it’s just plain lazy. Doesn’t everyone like food? Do you not like food?

Foodie or not, I can’t deny the appeal of Food Face, a new card game created by Sydney creative agency Buffet Digital, which feels like a stroke of genius ahead of Christmas.

The game is, in a nutshell, just gourmet Celebrity Heads. On the cards are 100 possible dishes, drinks and famous chefs, and it’s up to players to ask the right “yes” or “no” questions to figure out which one they are. So, instead of Kim Kardashian or the internet’s boyfriend, Paul Mescal, you might be Nigella Lawson or (god forbid) a Jägerbomb.

Buffet’s Sophie McComas-Williams said the idea for Food Face was a “lightbulb moment” ahead of Sydney’s 2021 lockdowns.

“We threw a last dinner for some family and friends which rolled on pretty late. To pick up the mood we wanted to play a game, and being food people, we tried sticking "chicken parmigiana", "Quay's Snow Egg" and "dumplings" to our heads in a food-based play on Celebrity Heads. It was fucking hilarious.”

The box also includes 20 blank cards onto which you can write your own gourmet ideas and tailor the game to whoever’s playing. It’s designed for an unlimited number of players, so those custom cards could get pretty interesting depending on your crew.

“It’s something that literally everyone can play, no matter the level of food knowledge. And honestly there's nothing like watching your mum try to pin down if she's a Spicy Marg.”

Food Face is $45 (RRP) and shipping is free. And yes, Dan the foodie would love this for Christmas, thanks.
