On Friday May 9, Australia is turning blue for Do It for Dolly Day. It’s a national day of awareness and fundraising that encourages open conversations about bullying and mental health, particularly for young people.
The day honours Amy “Dolly” Everett, who took her own life after she experienced an extended period of bullying and cyberbullying. In her memory, Dolly’s Dream was founded to help change the culture around bullying and provide direct support to young people and families. Through education, awareness and small acts of kindness, the organisation aims to create a safer, more compassionate world.
To help drive awareness of the charity and the work it does, Broadsheet is partnering with a handful of much-loved venues to serve limited-edition blue desserts – think lamingtons, doughnuts and scoops of ice-cream, all tinted Dolly’s favourite colour. It’s a small, sweet way to start a big conversation – whether with your kids, your mates or someone else who might need it.
In both Melbourne and Sydney, Tokyo Lamington is offering a limited-edition Blueberry Lamington at its Carlton and Newtown locations. Known for creative takes on the Aussie icon, this version leans into the occasion with blueberry sponge, a blueberry jam centre, and a dusting of that signature lamington coconut – all with a hint of blue, of course.
Kariton Sorbetes is also going blue in both cities, with a special one-off flavour available across all its stores. The much-loved Filipino gelato bar, known for flavours like ube, leche flan and Milo dinosaur, is scooping a one-off Blue Heaven flavour from its locations in Footscray, Chinatown and Glen Waverley in Melbourne, and Burwood in Sydney.
Grumpy Donuts has built a loyal following in Sydney for its big, fluffy, American-style doughnuts and playful flavours. For Do It for Dolly Day, it’s created a special yeast-raised doughnut called Dolly’s Blueberry Lemon Bliss, with blueberry icing, a house-made blueberry compote centre and lemon white-choc drizzle on top. You’ll find it at both its Camperdown and St Peters stores.
Melbourne’s Doughboy Doughnuts, which started in the founder’s mum’s laundry, is known for its fluffy yeasted dough. For Do It For Dolly Day, it’s created a blueberry cheesecake doughnut, where that signature dough is filled with blueberry cheesecake and topped with a roast blueberry icing.
The Cookie Box, which recently expanded to Melbourne CBD and Fitzroy, is offering a special lemon and blueberry cookie for Do It for Dolly Day. Made with zesty lemon dough and studded with whole blueberries, it’s just as chunky and indulgent as the bakery’s signature cookies. It’s available at all locations, including Windsor and Hawthorn, with 50 cents from each cookie sold going directly to Dolly’s Dream.
While these treats are a sweet way to bring awareness to the cause, you can also show your support simply by wearing blue – a shirt, a cap, even a pair of socks – and helping to remind others to be kind, speak up, and say no to bullying.
Dolly’s Dream offers anti-bullying programs in schools, a free 24-hour national support line, a cyber safety app called Beacon and a parent hub offering practical tools to help caregivers navigate tough conversations and keep their kids safe online.
Do It for Dolly Day is the biggest annual fundraising and awareness day for Dolly’s Dream. Every donation helps Dolly’s Dream continue its work supporting families, schools and communities across the country through education, resources and direct support to address the impact of bullying – and put a stop to it altogether.
Do It For Dolly Day is on Friday, May 9. Support the cause by wearing blue, hosting a fundraiser with your school, workplace or community, or donating directly.
Broadsheet is a proud supporter of Dolly's Dream and Do It For Dolly Day 2025.
