Savings Cheat Sheet: Where To Eat Across Australia Without Breaking the Bank

Dining out in a capital city is all about the thrill of discovery. But it’s not always easy to know which spots are best suited to your personal taste and budget.
Whether you’re after a quick midweek dinner or a long lunch with friends, there are plenty of venues offering good food at better value – even the ones you’ve saved for a “special occasion”.
With EatClub, you can get up to 50 per cent off the total bill (including food and drinks) at thousands of participating restaurants and bars. There’s no minimum spend or clunky vouchers – just add the app’s digital card to your phone’s wallet, avail of an offer in-app, and tap to pay at the restaurant. Venues use it to fill quieter times, so you’re helping keep them busy, too.
The Australian company has launched in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Canberra – here are some standout restaurants across them all (minus Canberra) to score a discount.
Melbourne
Among many choices in Melbourne’s CBD, you can get EatClub offers at Natural History Public Bar, a quirky modern pub inspired in part by classic museums. That means animal scenes – think life-sized goats, deer and rabbits frolicking through the wilderness – carefully posed in glass display cases while you graze a menu that offers three different cuts of steak as well as a hearty share of veg options.
Just a few blocks away, you can dive into Thai flavours and beyond at Rice Paper Scissors, a long-time favourite for punchy, shared plates.
And over on bustling Smith Street in Fitzroy, you can’t go wrong with Norma, an intimate French Mediterranean bistro that puts the utmost patience and care into every single dish.
Sydney
There’s a real depth of options in Sydney dining right now, especially on the casual side. That includes Nashville-style fried chicken at Belles Hot Chicken in Circular Quay, spanning everything from wings to tenders to sandwiches.
Even more shareable with your date (or mates) is Tapavino, a tapas and wine bar tucked into a CBD laneway. Diners can opt for a set menu or deluxe menu for groups of three or more, but the à la carte offering is just as appealing, with dishes available in a range of sizes.
And in Surry Hills, 170 Grammi Pizzeria offers proper Roman-style pizza from a well-trodden corner hub.
Adelaide
The EatClub offering is just as versatile in Adelaide, starting with a robust showcase of wines from Australia and beyond at Mother Vine. The cosy exposed-brick wine bar also serves more than a dozen European-style share plates, including dishes as substantial as burgers, steak and pasta.
Also in the CBD, The Little Hunter is a vibes-rich steakhouse nestled into a low-lit historic building. Elsewhere, Cozinha makes a strong case for accessible Brazilian cuisine. It’s open for breakfast and lunch too, balancing authentic South American faves with pizza, sandwiches and some of the best coffee around.
Brisbane
There are enticing meals and drinks waiting in Brisbane, with especially high concentrations of EatClub partner venues in West End and South Brisbane.
In South Bank, Poppies balances bright cocktails and modern Australian dinner dishes with popular brunch and all-day breakfast offerings. You’ll find Japanese pumpkin Benedict served alongside a banh mi burger and a New York-style bagel with cream cheese and lox.
Meanwhile, Hideki Izakaya has locations in both the Valley and the CBD, serving up skewers alongside raw bar highlights like Coffin Bay oysters and scallop ceviche, plus beautifully grilled meats. The cocktail list leans playful too, with plenty of Japanese-inspired twists.
Perth
The WA capital has hundreds of restaurants in the EatClub constellation, too. Start with The Prophet, a family-owned Lebanese cafe in East Victoria Park that’s been thriving for more than two decades. The menu also includes Egyptian dishes, a range of meat-free choices, and grilled fish featuring owner Jihad Moussallem’s homemade hot sauce.
Over in South Perth, The Sarapan serves breakfast and lunch from Thursday through Sunday. The menu is generous with Malaysian and Singaporean breakfast staples and lots of roti options. Check out the house version of a classic big breakfast, complete with anchovy sambal.
