From effortless date night looks to indulgent, just-because pieces – eight Broadsheet editors share what they’ll be fashioning this February 14.

Love is in my living room this year. We’re swapping a swanky dinner out for a wholesome night in. Which – alongside a mountainous bowl of pasta and Campari Spritzes – means beautifully comfortable loungewear. I’m leaning into the holiday with Deering’s Big Heart Energy tank which is described as “ribbed for your pleasure”. Hello! I’ll pair it with my trusty Adidas Firebird shorts and comfy-as-hell Paire quarter sock.

My relationship status steers me towards celebrating friendship for Palentine’s Day, which tends to be more fun anyway (or so I’ll tell myself). This year, it’s looking like a casual dinner where I’ll be busting out my go-to pair of Needles denim pants (which have an elastic waistband, a big dinner essential), a Neuw Denim t-shirt made with thick cotton that gives a bit more of a structured finish, and probably a classic pair of black Doc Martens. There’s a strong chance Palentine’s dinner will turn into a boogie, so my shoes need to be prepared to get stomped on the dance floor. The last touch will be a ring or two, like Cushla Whiting’s bloodstone signet. But never more than two rings because any more gives me the ick – I can’t explain why. You’re not Michael Jordan with six rings on. Do less, maybe?

I’m head over heels for Sandy Liang, so this Valentine’s Day I’ll wear what I like to call my sailor dress – inherited from my sister – with this romantic rosette hair tie and these ruffly Tony Bianco shoes I’ve been pairing with everything lately. I’ve also got a little crush on Alex Mill chairman Mickey Drexler, so I’ll finish the outfit off with this woven bag from the label.

Going on a date is up there with the most fun you can have. Hanging with a pal or lover? More please. All year round is best, but Valentine’s Day is a nice reminder. I’m out for pasta and wine by the ocean at The Shop & Wine Bar, and going hard on the beaded necklace trend. The aptly named Cupid’s Chain – from the glass experts at Jean Riley – is my pick, over a plain white Kowtow tee and breezy blue mini from Sir. Gold Briwok spirals on my lobes; Hencla beads on my wrist; the fun, comfy (and puffy) St Agni slides on my feet. An Emma Lewisham base and a whiff of Merit’s peachy Flush Balm? All set.

We’re last-minute kinda people, so who knows where we’ll end up next Friday? It’s likely there’ll be plates to share and natties to relish – in a moodily lit nook somewhere on Melbourne’s northside. I’m feeling inspired by All Is A Gentle Spring’s styling cues, so I’ll be pairing the label’s Spring belt (made in collaboration with Sydney jeweller Phoebe Cutler) with a monochromatic co-ord. Camper’s textured mary janes are my kicks of choice, alongside Kiko Kostadinov’s cult Trivia bag on my shoulder. I’ll give it a Valentine’s zhoosh with a tangerine take on the classic holiday hue applied to my cheeks, lips and eyes courtesy of Swedish label Manasi.

This year, there will be no Valentine’s Day dates, so I’ll be treating myself to some online shopping and a wine bar hop with friends. The changing weather in Melbourne calls for trans-seasonal pieces, so I’ll be reaching for The Xander Salet Shorts from Naked Vice paired with my new favourite patent wedge heel from Dof Studios (haven’t you heard? wedges are so back). Sunglasses are a must, so I’ll be finishing the look with The Speed sunglasses from Sir’s just-released eyewear collection – I’m partial to a translucent lens. Lastly, I can’t leave the house without a jacket, so the timing of With Jean's new collection drop couldn’t be more perfect. I have my eye on a very cute beige bomber.

I spent last Valentines Day in my slouchiest around-the-house dress, stirring and sweating. I had no idea how long risotto took to cook and by the time we sat down to eat around midnight I was a proper mess. This year I’m manifesting something slightly more put together. This shirred cotton boat-neck and these wide-leg pants from Faithful would be the perfect combination of chic and comfy. Or, if I’m looking for something slightly more fancy, I’d pick up this dandelion slip dress from Oroton. I have a similar dress from Oroton and I always feel elegant and confident in this style. And because I’m the type who gets ready for a date at the absolute last minute, I’d do my face with Merit’s Five Minute collection.

As a Virgo, I’m all about shedding expectations and doing what feels right for me. Zero fuss, maximum chill. There’s no greater pleasure than kicking off a pair of heels and slipping into something infinitely more comfortable – insert the Uggs Scuffettes, naturally. On Valentine’s Day, “add to cart” is my love language. I’ll be treating myself to The Elder Statesman’s Thistle cardigan – Melbourne winter won’t be long away. Then I’ll pop open a bottle of Laherte Freres champagne (because, priorities) and toast to the most important person in my life: myself.
