Bondi-based fashion retailer Tuchuzy has gone into voluntary administration. The store, which was founded in 1995 by Daria Sukic, is known for stocking international and Australian designers such as Anine Bing, Alexander Wang, Mara & Mine, Rag & Bone and Saint Laurent.

Sukic cites the compounding issues of bushfires, a difficult retail environment and coronavirus as the reasons for calling in administrators. “Corona made it all come to the surface 10 times quicker,” she tells Broadsheet. “It was lots of little things. It’s been a dramatic year for everyone. There was no fighting back because it wasn’t a normal retail environment. You couldn’t even predict the budget.”

Sukic says the company is working with voluntary administrators McGrath Nicol to “get the company back”.

“It’s not a shutdown,” she says. “At the moment we’re still operating, our customers are still in there, we’re still online. And we’re just working out how we can get out of this hole. If we do come back, we’ll come back stronger than ever.”

Tuchuzy’s team has been cut by more than half, and has relocated from its Mascot headquarters back to its Bondi store. The company is currently not accepting gift cards or vouchers at its online store.
