Where Stylists Shop: Six Fashion Trends Taking Over Spring Wardrobes
Words by Simone Richardson · Updated on 07 Jan 2026 · Published on 17 Sep 2025
Is 2025 the year of accessories? Emerging spring trends from top Aussie stylists suggest it might be.
Past seasons spotlighted vibrant hosiery, kitsch bag charms and low-slung belts. Now, it’s silk scarves tied at the waist, bandanas knotted in your hair, and jewellery that’s chunkier and bolder than ever.
Maybe it’s linked to cost-of-living pressures, where smaller styling cues refresh an outfit without a full closet overhaul. Or maybe it’s part of the broader move toward conscious consumption, where investment pieces matter more than fast turnover – and accessories become the add-on that keeps a capsule wardrobe feeling fresh.
Either way, the mood is experimental. It signals fashion’s shift towards maximalism, where wardrobe play is not only welcomed, but encouraged. Here are the stylist-approved trends taking off this spring, plus the pieces to shop now.
Layering outlives winter
“I’m feeling like we’ll see a fresh and exciting take on layering this spring, whether accessorising with an Alemais silk scarf around the waist, on the head, or worn as a tie – or with plaid shirts and skirts layered over pants. I have my eye on this Song for the Mute combo. And I’m always happy to see pale pink making strong impressions on the runway. I’ve been dreaming about workshopping this Courtney Zheng skirt with a cute white baby tee and an oversized jacket.
What I love about the layering trend is how versatile it is for creating new looks: adding a shirt or T-shirt under a cami, tying a scarf around the waist of your jeans, or layering prints and colours. It’s something we can all access, and I love that it encourages us to use what we already have in our wardrobe to create new combinations.”

Adieu to minimalism
“After a period of ‘quiet luxury’, we’re finally moving towards maximalism and vibrancy. At the men’s SS26 shows, bohemian maximalism and Eastern influences appeared at Dries Van Noten, Armani and Kartik Research. Hopefully this inspires more people to drape a scarf around their trousers or throw chunky necklaces over a slinky tank for extra flair.
Chunky jewellery is already filtering through my clients’ wardrobes – from Tatah the Label necklaces to Dinosaur Designs bangles or even bag charms. I’m also seeing a Casablanca -meets-Slim Aarons aesthetic trickling down: pleated trousers for men with a salmon-pink tank, or a polo for women with Zahra’s Desert Rose fringed skirt. Either way, the common through-line is more, more, more.”

Sheer is (still) here
“Sheer, see-through items are usually reserved for a revealing evening look, but I can see these pieces being worn more as everyday staples – it’s all in the styling. I love working with see-through pieces, as it’s easy to build a layered look and it’s a unique way to show form whilst still remaining chic. It feels very European.
For example, I love this sheer version of an oversized shirt by Camilla and Marc. I think the charcoal is a perfect update from black, and very versatile. I’d style it with a bralette or singlet and jeans for a casual everyday look.
I imagine this blue silk skirt from Venroy with a cool fitted jacket and flat boots, or in summer, styled with a fitted ribbed singlet and thongs (love these Christopher Esber ones) for warmer weather.
This Beare Park singlet is a perfect mid-season layering piece, before it’s warm enough to wear alone. I can see it over a fitted long sleeve and maxi skirt – the side ties add drama when worn to the floor or can be tied to add interest around the waist.”

Back to basics
“This spring’s must-haves have always been regarded as the greats (or wardrobe staples), and our shores have some of the best examples of these pieces. First, tank tops. This basic comes in different collar shapes – like Flore Flore’s Jill tank, Matteau’s Deep U tank and St Agni’s Halter top – and they’re the most requested items from my consulting clients.
Drawstrings are another take on the trend. These Venroy Bermuda shorts could transition from day to night with fun heels and a contemporary tank. I also love all the drawstring pieces from Brooke Callahan.

Barely-there footwear
“Dare I say it, I think it’s finally the flip-flop’s turn to be insufferably trendy, designer and $1000. We had the Vibram Fivefingers (covering each individual toe), and now we’re just fully exposing all 10.
Despite flip-flops literally being flip-flops, I fear I love the idea of them – especially the trinketed Gimaguas x Havaianas styled with too-long pants and straps peeping out.
For an IDGAF pair of shoes: I love the way ERL has brought back the foam-platform flip-flops from the early ’00s and is selling them for $581. Fashion is so funny to me.”

Bandanas are back
“The return of the scarf bandana. As a curly-haired girl, I’ve been wearing this trend forever and I’m so happy it’s made its way back for spring 2025. Whether styling it on your head, over a dress or trousers, or even as a top – it’s a versatile trend that really works into your wardrobe and brings a pop of colour or personality into an outfit.
There are so many amazing options out there at the moment. I love this silk bandana by Scanlan Theodore as it’s a larger size, so it gives you the option to style in different ways (like over trousers). Poppy Lissiman has vibrant prints and this one looks great styled on the head. Venroy always offers fun colours for spring – this piece also works as a top.”
