Song for the Mute Drops a New Performance-Wear Collab With Adidas

Song for the Mute’s Adidas Originals collaborations are instant sellouts. The lauded Sydney-based fashion label first worked with the sneaker giant in September 2022. Fast-forward four years, and it’s released eight much-hyped collections, reimagining classic Adidas sneaker and apparel styles with Song’s signature avant-garde cool.
Song has now launched its collection with Adidas Running, branching out from streetwear into performance-wear. Named The First Breath, the collection features a reinterpretation of the Supernova Rise 3 running shoes along with a range of boxy tanks, tees and shorts in men’s, women’s and unisex fits.
“We wanted to evolve the partnership between Song for the Mute and Adidas,” Song for the Mute co-founder Melvin Tanaya says. “A few of our team members are advanced runners, but most of us are keen to pick up our first pair of trainers but we didn’t know which one to get. That’s when we realised there is a gap and demand in the performance market for a reimagined aesthetic through a designer lens.”
Shifting the focus from elite training, the collection is an accessible entry point into everyday training without compromising on the high-performance results.
Unlike its previous lifestyle collections with Adidas, performance-wear meant the team worked “within the constraints to ensure that we designed something authentic and technical where products should be able to be worn casually but also perform”.
The range’s colour palette leans earthy, much like its past collaborations. The Supernova Rise 3 kicks come in two colourways: a deep auburn and off-white. It’s a sleek and comfortable silhouette designed for regular runs of two to five kilometres, as well as the aspiring runner. A woven perforated upper is combined with hand-drawn midsole graphics and Adidas’s signature three stripes.
Apparel comes in black, white, muted mauve and a dusty indigo. Tanks are cobranded with a “Run Song” graphic and the entire range features hand-drawn lines that trace the edge of silhouettes.
Shop the collection at Song for the Mute and select retailers.
