I Can’t Stop Wearing These Exercise Tops From PE Nation

The Sydney label revealed a rebrand at Australian Fashion Week in May. And This writer is obsessed with the buttery soft crop tops and T-shirts that have finally landed.

I’m in my exercise era. I’m going to personal training sessions on my lunch breaks and themed spin classes on a Saturday morning. I even bought protein powder. (Hot tip: this flavourless one slips seamlessly into any smoothie combo you like).

And like any good fitness girlie, I’ve also invested in new activewear to look the part. I realised some of my favourite leggings and sports bras have been with me for almost a decade – it was high time for an upgrade.

When PE Nation showed at Australian fashion week in May and revealed an updated aesthetic, I liked the vibe. But at that point I was barely making it to one Pilates class a week, and my iron levels were what my GP called “concerning for a 30 year old woman”.

Once my attention turned to health and wellbeing, I started poking around for some fresh sportswear to sweat in. That’s when I noticed PE Nation’s new collection had dropped. I was immediately obsessed with the cinched-waist jackets. But I think the unsung hero of this collection has got to be the tees and tanks.

More specifically the Foundation short sleeve tee. I’ve been coaxed out of my usual all-black uniform and I have it in gunmetal grey and sky blue. The coffee brown was loitering dangerously close to my shopping cart too but I opted instead for the Preview tank in this hue.

In my opinion, these styles are the perfect length for activewear tops. Not too short, not too long. Just right. I’m 164cm tall, wear a size medium and find they hit right at the top of my leggings. And they’re both really flattering. The tee scoops the body nicely and doesn’t bunch up around the midsection, while the tank is cut with a wider, squared-off neckline than you often find.

Both pieces are made from a delightfully buttery fabric that is majority nylon according to the care label but doesn’t feel like sweaty plastic suctioned to my body when the deadlifts start getting heavy. The tank has a shelf bra built into it that offers moderate support – depending on your bust size you might be able to get away with more or less aerobic activity in this one.

I’ve also found myself dabbling in the new graphic pieces. I’ve barely taken off this jumper and these shorts since they arrived.
