Cariuma might be best known for its commitment to sustainability – the B Corp-certified brand promises to plant two trees in the Brazilian rainforest for every pair of sneakers sold – but the signature ethical skate styles aren’t short on street cred. They’re Ashton Kutcher’s favourite shoes , and Broadsheet is also a fan of the super comfortable silhouettes.
The Brazilian label has teamed up with Aussie favourite Deus Ex Machina on a limited-edition capsule, which is launching today. The collaboration includes two pairs of low-tops – designed to have a live-in feel – made from premium materials like natural rubber, cork, mamona (castor) oil and suede, sourced responsibly from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries.
“I’ve been a big fan of Deus Ex Machina since the first time I saw a friend of mine wearing a cap,” says Fernando Porto, Cariuma’s co-founder and chief creative officer. “When I visited the store in Tokyo, I fell in love with the aesthetics and their unique approach to surfboards and motorcycles.”
Available in black and orange and tonal green colourways in both men’s and women’s sizing, the two new pairs retail at $159 each. “They are inspired by a rugged and authentic approach … the suede tones have a washed finish that gives more personality to them,” Porto says.
Fusing the two brands’ design idiosyncrasies, the collaboration has a distinct vintage vibe that should resonate with fans.
