As a leading luxury Australian label, Dion Lee’s foray into activewear may come as a surprise. But on closer inspection his recent partnership with activewear e-tailer Carbon 38 makes perfect sense: his stretch fabrics, architectural silhouettes, sharp tailoring and woven knitwork serve women’s every needs and movements well, why not extend that to working out?
As the lines between sportswear and ready-to-wear are increasingly blurred, Dion Lee understands wardrobe staples have to go the extra distance to support our busy lifestyles. The ambitious designer’s versatile, seasonless sports line is designed for optimum performance across the board, whether it’s outfitting you in empowering staples for an office meeting, or for a session at the gym.
The highly wearable collection is made with technical fabrics and features a cream bodysuit with intricate spine detailing. Wear it tucked into a pair of relaxed-fit mid-rise “trackies” that double as tailored work pants, or a pair of leggings that could easily be mistaken for eveningwear stockings.
Layering is the key to this collection. For example, wear the X Ray bra under an open oversized shirt or sheer blouse, or with leggings or bike shorts to the gym. The active tank is more like a bodice, and the Welded X-ray jacket, with the label’s signature engineered weaving detail on the back, can be worn as comfortably on a bike as styled as a blazer with a pair of jeans to dinner.
