I’ve harboured a deep fear of round brushes for many years. I think it stems from the childhood trauma of getting caught up in the bristles (and the drama of detangling) while playing with my mum’s brushes.
Exposure in my adult years has helped my anxieties. And Bondi Boost’s new Infrared Bounce Brush is slowly converting me to a round brush stan.
When the Aussie brand launched the new hot tool in February, it swiftly sold out. Now, it’s back in stock (in limited quantities) and ready to change your styling game.
The first thing to know is that it’s not a blow dry brush – you need to start with dry hair. Second day hair that has slightly less slip and more grip works even better.
Powered by infrared light, the brush heats up between 120 and 220 degrees Celsius – you can choose your preferred temperature on the control panel. It’s a gentle form of heat that the brand claims will cause no damage. There’s also a “cool tip” which means you can hold both ends of the brush as you work your way around your head with no risk of singed fingertips. And the 2.4-metre long, 360 degree swivel cord gives you plenty of room to move.
The 42-millimetre barrel creates a bouncy blowout effect or loose curls. Plus, aloe-infused bristles promise to add shine and reduce frizz. If you’re an air-dryer, this tool is a quick solution for smoothing out strands or even defining and refreshing natural waves.
I’m pretty amateur when it comes to styling my hair – I’m forever in debt to my hairdresser for the wash-and-go cut he nails every time. And wielding a hair dryer and a round brush at the same time is beyond my ability. But 10 minutes of twirling this tool in sections, coupled with a spritz of texture spray (Cool Girl from Hair by Sam McKnight is my ride or die) and I’m flicking my hair around all day like it’s nobody’s business.
