A great wool coat never goes out of style. Invest well, and you’re set for a decade of cold commutes, coffee runs and the inevitable late-night hop between bars.

But wool’s appeal goes beyond its timeless nature – it’s scientific too. Each fibre has a crimped, coiled structure that traps pockets of air against the body, which is why it keeps you warm without piling on the extra weight. It’s also breathable enough that you won’t overheat the second you’re back inside.

The fibre might be a cold-weather constant, but this season’s silhouettes are anything but familiar. Funnel necklines are the top outerwear trend to come out of Paris Fashion Week’s autumn/winter 2026 shows, where Chloé and Victoria Beckham sent plaid, high-collared styles down the runway, and Acne Studios followed suit in black.

Elsewhere, coats are getting longer and sharper. In recent shows, Burç Akyol and Jean Paul Gaultier showcased floor-grazing maxi lengths, while Lanvin’s collection of slick suiting cemented 2026 as the year that power dressing came back.
