Winter officially starts next week. But with crisp mornings and chilly evenings already setting in, we’re looking to our favourite local brands for snug knitwear that makes light work of getting dressed each day.
Alemais Sporty sweater

Alemais applies its playful design DNA to this alpaca-blend style. The perfect antidote to dreary days.
A resort brand at heart, Commas puts a vacation-ready spin on knitwear with this oversized cardi. We can imagine it slung over swimwear on the cusp of European summer or layered with vintage denim for Aussie winter.
Kiwi brand Marle offers up another oversized style that gives off grandpa-chic energy. The chunky cable knit is finished with alternative button closures so you can mix up your look.
Haulier is best known for its bags. But the brand’s first foray into knitwear is proving to be an equal hit. The capsule collection is handmade in Italy from 100 per cent superfine Australian merino wool.

This mauve mohair and wool-blend cardi from Melbourne brand Friends With Frank serves as the perfect closet cleanser for anyone stuck in a black/white/grey/brown rut.
But to be honest, there’s nothing wrong with brown. Especially when it’s perfectly mottled in thick wool with balloon sleeves as per Hansen & Gretel’s Pippa jumper.
Henne makes a case for winter whites with its fluffy Solene cardigan. Wear with the brand’s cult high-rise denim or layer with a tailored skirt and loafers at the office.
Another New Zealand name on the list: Kowtow does responsibly crafted knitwear in 100 per cent certified Fair Trade organic cotton. This squiggly style with lilac detailing is a favourite for all seasons.
Looking for a classic? A Emery’s elegant V-neck Lewis knit is made from merino wool in a compact knit. Add the chocolate, almond and charcoal colours to your wardrobe for the ultimate understated luxe looks.
Put on preppy vibes with this cable-knit style from Lee Mathews. The superfine alpaca and merino wool construction is what winter wardrobe dreams are made of.
This butter-yellow sweater from Maggie Marilyn’s collection is one of many knits we’re eyeing from the Kiwi brand. The 100 per cent cashmere design fits with classic proportions.
If you’re yet to find the perfect pop of red to style this season, Lovaan delivers with its crimson Fleur cardi. The golden bow buttons are simply the cherry on top.
