Since launching in 2021, Aussie fashion label Beare Park has quietly built a reputation for its understated, cool tailoring and commitment to local manufacturing. In 2023, it suited up the Matildas in custom off-field uniforms and, this year, its Australian Fashion Week show was among the buzziest on the schedule. Now, the label has opened its first brick-and-mortar store in a heritage terrace on Williams Street in Paddington.

“I have lived in Sydney my whole life and spent a lot of time on that Williams Street strip as a kid and as a teenager just shopping,” says Beare Park creative director and co-founder Gabriella Pereira. “I remember going into Collette Dinnigan with my mum – it was number 33, and [now] we’re number 25,” she says about the address.

Securing a shopfront along the prestigious shopping strip – next to Australian designers including Lucy Folk and P Johnson Femme – is no small feat for a label that’s only been around for four years. While it was always Pereira’s North Star, the opportunity came about faster than expected. She found the listing by chance. “You can’t really plan it because you don’t know when spaces that are so tightly held will become available.”

Beare Park’s sharp and minimalist approach to clothing is carried through its flagship, inspired by the relaxed apartment-like feeling of boutiques in New York and Paris. Original stone flooring contrasts with white-washed walls and black clothing rails handmade by a local blacksmith. Vintage French furniture, sourced through The Vault, punctuates the pared-back space.

In the change rooms, draped silk dupion curtains are a sculptural statement. “We secured the fabric from our same [Melbourne-based] supplier that we buy fabric from for our clothes and then had one of our makers in Sydney actually make the curtains.” It’s a full-circle moment that stays true to the brand’s local-first ethos.

Having achieved so much in such a short space of time, it’s only fair to ask what’s next. “We definitely have a very strong international customer. The next dream step would be a similar thing internationally, but for now this is a very, very exciting step,” Pereira says.
