Hand-woven market baskets carry SPF spritzers. Crochet-trimmed pants ace pared-back style. And chocolate plum co-ords serve a monochromatic moment. For the tennis – and many more summer days to come – here’s what we’re adding to cart.

With the Australian Open in full swing, it’s game, set and match for the return of tennis-core fashion. But this time we’re skipping the kitschy cliches and fleeting trends, opting instead for timeless summer staples designed to outlast the match – and the season.

Courtside comfort is non-negotiable. Think breezy silhouettes, breathable fabrics and sun-safe accessories – sported with style, of course.

What our fashion editor is wearing to the Australian Open

I'm a firm believer that you don't need to buy new clothes for an event. Case in point: the Australian Open. While bright whites and tennis dresses may be the picks of the season, I choose to reach towards summer all-rounders that have ample wearability. I really love Australian label Commas’ hand-crocheted trim trousers. The cotton wide leg pant is slouchy and comfortable, yet the crochet side detailing makes it a considered fashion choice. Sun safety is paramount and New Zealand label Kowtow has a sweet bucket hat made from repurposed heavyweight organic cotton denim. The Forest hat isn't overwhelming in size and also features ties to strap it in place. To finish, a structured vest by Melbourne’s Elka Collective.

What our photo editor is wearing to the Australian Open

Anything that covers my shoulders in the Aussie sun is key when dressing for the tennis. My favourite baby tee from St Agni is what I’ll be reaching for, paired with the Minimal column skirt in chocolate plum for a monochromatic moment. When it comes to footwear, I’ll opt for the shoes of the season, the Jo flip-flop from Christopher Esber – an elevated take on everyone’s favourite beach essential footwear.

What our directory editor is wearing to the Australian Open

Oversized, breezy silhouettes are great for courtside comfort in the heat. This sage number from Lee Mathews is a fresh take on the preppy polo, with tan side panels and a relaxed fit. Pair it with the matching Lucien pants and sleek sunnies – Velvet Canyon’s The Noughties style is my pick.

What our head of social is wearing to the Australian Open

Sand-schnitzeled feet. A Coles potato salad. The Aus Open. These are all hallmarks of an Aussie summer. This year, I’m leaning into the tennis aesthetic and heading to Melbourne Park in these wide leg Lee Mathews shorts. The crisp white bottoms are comfortable, elevated and long enough to protect my knees from the sun during lengthy rallies. I’m pairing it with a statement necklace like this beauty by Paloma Wool – and a tubular knit by Bassike to show it off.

What our shopping editor is wearing to the Australian Open

Does the hunt for a perfect summer dress ever really conclude? For me it’s all about finding weightless comfort and effortless style – and this drawcord dress by Bassike ticks both boxes. The crushed cotton fabric offers a muted ink hue that feels equally fresh and timeless. On my arm? Palorosa’s contemporary take on a classic market basket, hand-woven in Guatemala. It’s roomy enough for Ultra Violette’s Preen Screen, offering regular SPF top-ups throughout the day.
