Virtual Mexican Fiesta by Gerardo Lopez of La Tortilleria
Mexican cuisine is largely communal, meant to be shared with family and friends. And while we won’t be passing plates down the table anytime soon, Gerardo Lopez wants to bring everyone together through an online cooking class.
He’ll be joined by special guests in cooking traditional guacamole, either fish or cauliflower ceviche, and tinga tacos (chicken or eggplant). Margaritas and a mezcal cocktail will also be made, and the night will end with a dessert.
A box of ingredients will be sent with most of the items you’ll need, including corn tortillas and tortilla chips from La Tortilleria, chipotle chillies from La Costeña, agave syrup, Cempasuchil Mexican salsa, enough Meteoro mezcal for four cocktails and recipe booklets.
There are some things you’ll need to buy yourself, such as tomatoes, avocados, limes and orange juice, plus your chosen proteins. If you’ve got other friends joining in, the team will put you into breakout rooms so you can enjoy the experience more intimately.
All profits are being donated to Friends for Good, which aims to alleviate loneliness in Australian adults through awareness, research, community services and wellbeing initiatives.
Orders close on Wednesday September 22. Boxes can be delivered across Victoria, NSW and Queensland.
