The Underground Opera’s West End to Broadway in the Reservoir
The Underground Opera is one of Australia’s leading opera companies, with a very literal meaning behind the name. They produce opera and Broadway experiences in underground locations around the country, from mines and tunnels to caves and, most recently, the activation of a decommissioned underground water reservoir in Brisbane, the Spring Hill Reservoir. Six metres underground, the reservoir is divided into 15 sections by headwalls, with each section joined by hand-lain brick archways that have stood strong for over 140 years.
If you love musical theatre, you won’t want to miss the Underground Opera’s West End to Broadway in the Reservoir, happening from Friday August 12 until Sunday August 21. Featuring some of the country’s best musical theatre performers, West End to Broadway covers hits from 100 years ago up until the present day, bridging generations from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Pasek and Paul. The cast includes Oliver Samson, Ashleigh Denning, Louise Dorsman and introducing Kristian Scott, accompanied by pianist Mark Connors.
If opera’s more to your taste, Opera in the Reservoir: Heroes and Villains is one to watch. Happening between November 11 and 20, the cast will perform arias, duets and ensemble pieces from opera’s most diabolical and heroic stories. You will also get to meet the cast in an experience only available to Mastercard cardholders.
