Cancelled: Taste Great Southern Food & Wine Festival, WA
Update March 18, 2020: The IGA Taste Great Southern has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Each year producers in and around southern WA unite behind Taste Great Southern, a festival celebrating the quality (and quantity) of the fertile region’s produce and wares.
In 2020 it runs from March 26 to April 5 across five locations: Albany, Denmark, Mount Barker, Frankland River, and Katanning. With more than 30 events, the festival showcases the region’s wine production, produce and local culinary talent, including Amy Hamilton (Liberté), Melissa Palinkas (Young George), and Russell Blaikie (Must Winebar). Joining them this year is Masterchef winner Julie Goodwin, Paul West (River Cottage Australia) and another Masterchef fan-favourite, Derek Lau.
Chefs and winemakers will collaborate throughout the 11-day festival on a series of events, markets, dinners, lunches and parties, including long-table banquets set in the alleys of young vineyards, foraged native dinners under the stars, and feasts based on marron, beef or the region’s best veg. The region has also been a strong wine producer since the late 1800s, and riesling, shiraz and pinot will flow.
