Do you remember where you were, 20 year ago, when the landmark 2000 Olympics kicked off in Sydney? Which moments struck you most? Can you still picture them in your head?
This winter, Channel 7 is screening two new specials that will transport you back to 2000. It will also mark a year before the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
On July 29 at 9.15pm, go behind the scenes of the mammoth Opening Ceremony, with The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Sydney 2000 Uncovered. It will feature new interviews with the personalities who made the night so unforgettable, including flagbearer Andrew Gaze and hometown hero Cathy Freeman (who all but stole the show).
Also hear from those who performed on the night: Vanessa Amorosi, James Morrison, and – of course – the then-13-year-old Nikki Webster.
On August 5 at 9.15pm, there’ll be a two-hour special – Olympic Games Sydney 2000 Moments That Moved Us – which will flash back to some of the most memorable athletic moments from the games. Think Freeman’s victory in the 400 metres, Ian Thorpe’s gold-medal-winning swim, and fan favourite Tatiana Grigorieva’s silver medal for pole vault.
Watch the highlights on Channel 7.
