As organiser Kat Dopper (creator of Heaps Gay) puts it, “Summer Camp is a new inclusive festival experience that accepts all the cuties.” Love has no labels at this pride fest, which includes performance art, dance and over 150 DJs, drag queens and artists at each event.
It’s pitched as Australia’s first touring pride festival, starting in Darwin and migrating to Sydney, Melbourne and Perth with almost the same line-up across each city.
Headliner Olly Alexander (Years & Years) will be at three of the four shows – Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. It’ll be the first time Australian crowds experience the latest tracks from the London-based actor and singer, including those collabs with queen Kylie Minogue.
US hip-hop royalty Big Freedia will be there. As will our fave twins the Veronicas. Brissy band Cub Sport will bring the feels, and Confidence Man will bring the shoulder pads. Then there’s producer Young Franco, New Zealand rapper JessB, Triple J Unearthed 2020 Artist of the Year Sycco, and singer-songwriter Ladyhawke. And that’s before we start on the impressive list of secondary acts, which are just as enticing.
