For many of us, a closet clean-out is one of those things that – despite the very best of intentions – is often relegated to the “too hard basket.” Or, worse, you’ve done all the necessary Marie Kondo-ing and you’ve just stopped short of taking the clothes to the charity shop, leaving them sitting there in a judgemental heap in the corner of your room.
Luckily for us, Uber has teamed up with the Red Cross to make life easier for Aussies. It’s asking for donations of quality pre-loved clothes to help raise funds for the Red Cross as they head into summer.
For one day only, Uber will pick up your pre-loved goods and deliver them to Red Cross drop-off zones completely free of charge. All you have to do is open the Uber app, navigate to the Package section, select “Send a package”, enter all your pick-up details and choose “Red Cross Shop” as the recipient. Then select your nearest clothing drive location, and the promotion should automatically apply and charge a trip amount of $0. Then, like any other Uber service, a driver will arrive at your address and collect your package (it can't weigh more than 20-kilograms) – you can even track when it has arrived at its destination. The clothes will then be sold on by The Red Cross, to support projects aiding communities in Australia and overseas.
The silver lining is that once you’ve cleared out your own closet, there will be plenty of space for new threads. If you’re looking for sustainable shopping inspiration, for our money, the Red Cross is one of the best op shops in the game.
From 10am–4pm, only in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth or Sydney.
