While the currently postponed Tokyo Olympics is still at risk of cancellation, the inaugural Puppy Games – which will be live-streamed on July 23 – is a sure thing.
For the canine competition, organised by Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs and The Petbarn Foundation, four four-legged athletes will battle it out for the title of top dog.
The pups-in-training will have their competitiveness, coordination and concentration put to the test in a series of challenges. They’ll compete in a time trial, a food-bowl challenge, and the “Dogstacle Distraction Course”.
The event will raise much-needed funds to breed, train and care for Seeing Eye dogs, which will go on to become companions for those who are blind or have low vision. And pet-food brand Royal Canin has pledged to match each donation made from 12pm on the day – up to a total of 50k.
