Nothing cheers people up quite like cute dogs – except maybe cute dogs in even cuter costumes. Every year, Petember provides exactly that by encouraging pet owners to dress up their pooches and pups to raise money for charity. Plus, the most dolled-up doggos can win prizes and special treats.
There are different themes each week. Get your furry mate to strike a pose for the pupparazzi (aka you) in their best red-pawpet look, channeling A-list celebrities like Pawdrey Hepburn or Jake Gyllenpaw. Next is the world of spawts: don swim goggles, cheerleading pompoms, tennis rackets and basketball jerseys on your own Maria Sha-ruff-pova and Michael Whelps.
Get musical with a week dedicated to pup stars – will they be Katy Pawry, Enrique Doglesias or the queen of them all, Madogga? And towards the end of the month, with Howloween approaching, the theme will revolve around spooky looks.
Prizes include online shopping vouchers to Fuzzyard, treat packs from Schmackos and more, with weekly awards such as cleverest canine, punniest pup, unique puploads and Photoshop extrafurganza.
All you have to do is register for free, create a fundraising page, upload your dog’s costumes each week and encourage family and friends to donate.
Proceeds raised will go towards training and providing assistance dogs to kids in need, through the work of children’s charity Variety. It costs roughly $40,000 to train and place a single assistance dog.
