NGV Teens: Broadsheet

Price: Free
Get an insight into the world of print and digital publishing at this free online discussion with Broadsheet editor Nick Connellan.

The National Gallery of Victoria’s online Industry Connections series gives teenagers the chance to connect with artists, curators and other people working in the creative industries. The free, informal discussions provide insights into the day-to-day life of creatives, and how they came into their careers.

Past speakers include Melbourne street artist Rone, florist Hattie Molloy and painter Olana Janfa.

Next up is journalist and Broadsheet editor Nick Connellan. In his role as publications director he manages the production of Broadsheet’s quarterly newspapers, which are distributed to several thousand cafes across Melbourne and Sydney.

His work involves generating story ideas; collaborating with writers, photographers, graphic designers and illustrators; translating printed articles to the website; composing newsletters and social media posts; and interpreting website traffic data. In 2018 Connellan edited The Broadsheet Italian Cookbook, containing 80 recipes from Australia’s best restaurants, cafes and bars.

The hour-long event, geared to people aged 13 to 18, will cover Connellan’s path to the industry and what he’s learned about journalism, branding and media while working at one of the country’s leading publishers.

NGV Teens: Broadsheet begins at 5pm. Join here 10 minutes before the event begins, using the password IndConnect#2107.
