Meg Gallagher Artwork Auction for the Australian Wildlife Conservancy
Mon Oct 20, 2025 – Mon Nov 24, 2025
Online auction
From ancient hieroglyphics to the impressionists, art has always imitated nature – and Meg Gallagher ’s larger-than-life textile works are no exception. The fashion-designer-turned-artist transforms vintage clothing, denim offcuts and natural dyes into expansive artworks that evoke salt flats, rusty red canyons and swirling tides.
Now, you can own one of her dreamlike pieces – all while supporting environmental conservation. During a recent artist residency at Bullo River Station – a 400,000-acre luxury stay and cattle property on Miriwoong and Gajirrawoong Country in the remote Northern Territory – the Aotearoa/New Zealand artist created The Rhythm. The richly textured piece is made from worn denim, cotton workwear and red ochre sourced directly from the station.
Crafted in Gallagher’s Dunedin studio, the one-off piece will be auctioned online from October 20 to November 24, with all proceeds donated to Australian Wildlife Conservancy, Bullo River Station’s conservation partner. The auction gives collectors a rare chance to bring the outback home.
For the piece, Gallagher took inspiration from the rhythms, textures and colours of station life. “I’ve worked with the station team’s worn denim and fabrics, even dyeing cotton with Bullo’s own red ochre, so the artwork doesn’t just depict the outback, it quite literally contains pieces of it,” she says.
Gallagher has previously worked with brands including Ksubi and Camilla & Marc. The auction closes at 8pm (AWST) on November 24, with the winning bidder announced the following day.
