Members of the Lebanese-Australian community have come together to pledge their goods, services and time for a social-media silent auction in support of those affected by the disastrous Beirut explosion earlier this month. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Impact Lebanon, a not-for-profit that aims to raise $13 million for the relief effort. 3QA, Impact Lebanon’s partner on the ground, will carefully select and vet which NGOs the money goes to, ensuring they are secular, aren’t affiliated with a political party and have ongoing, critical initiatives to aid the crisis.
So far, prizes up for auction in NSW include a function for 20 people at Parramatta restaurant El-Phoenician; a private at-home baking tutorial with Knafeh Bakery; dinner and drinks for 10 guests at Hotel Palisade; a $1000 gift voucher for Lillian Khallouf’s Leichhardt boutique; and a range of hair and beauty vouchers.
In Queensland, Middle Eastern diner Gerard’s Bistro has put up a prize package for a private dining experience worth $1000.
To bid, head to the Lebathon Instagram page and select the item you’d like to make an offer on. Each post includes the opening bid and minimum bid increments, and you can comment underneath with your offer. More prizes are constantly being added, so keep checking back to up your bid and tender for new items.
The auction runs until 6pm on August 28.
