Japanese Film Festival
The rich world of Japanese cinema will light up screens in Canberra, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney for the 27th annual Japanese Film Festival. The much-loved festival opens with Testu Maeda’s We’re Broke, My Lord!, a witty and unexpected character study involving family fortune, shoguns and samurais. Other festival highlights include The Forbidden Play, a nail-biting horror film that brings a hint of Hollywood to a traditional J-horror story, and Natchan’s Little Secret, an audience-pleasing queer comedy.
There’s also a special free series celebrating the works of Kо̄ Nakahira, a major figure of post-war cinema, whose genre-spanning works cast a long shadow over the world of Japanese film. The Kо̄ Nakahira series will screen in Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
