Academy Award-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi has recruited some of his very famous mates to read Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach in a 10-part Youtube series, which kicked off on May 18.
The line-up includes industry icon Meryl Streep, British national treasure Benedict Cumberbatch, our own Cate Blanchett and Chris Hemsworth, and more.
The novel, first published in 1961, follows a young British boy who enters a gigantic, magical peach and discovers a surreal world filled with enchanted garden bugs. It’s perhaps the seminal peach-centric tale, rivalled only by the far-less-PG Call Me by Your Name.
This series is a collaboration with Partners in Health, which works on the front lines with some of the world’s the most in-need communities – building health systems, protecting the vulnerable and saving lives.
While the readings are free to access, you can donate to the cause here; all donations will be matched by the Roald Dahl Story Company, up to $1 million.
Readings are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
