Hurtigruten Scandinavian Film Festival 2025 at Palace Cinemas
Fri Jul 11, 2025 – Thu Aug 14, 2025
Various locations
Celebrating the stark beauty and rich storytelling of the Nordic region, the Hurtigruten Scandinavian Film Festival makes its return with a wide-spanning program of the best new films from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. Running from July through August at Palace, Palace Nova and Luna Palace Cinemas nationwide, the 2025 edition features gripping historical dramas, quirky comedies and moving stories of family, identity and resistance.
Opening night launches with Number 24, a tense and timely WWII resistance drama from Norwegian director John Andreas Andersen (The Burning Sea, The Quake), based on the extraordinary true story of a daring spy.
This year’s festival centrepiece arrives fresh from winning the Grand Prix at Cannes – Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier (The Worst Person in the World), starring Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård and Elle Fanning in a stirring meditation on art, grief and reconciliation.
Also featured is Erik Poppe’s powerful Quisling: The Final Days, delving into Norway’s post-war reckoning, and The Last Paradise on Earth, a moving drama set on the stunning, remote Faroe Islands. Other highlights include Icelandic box-office sensation Grand Finale, a closing night treat packed with dark humour and musical mischief, and The Mountain, Iceland’s first certified sustainable film, featuring Ísadóra Bjarkardóttir Barney (daughter of Björk and artist Matthew Barney).
Find comedy and heartbreak in Finland’s “sex-positive” romp Sudden Outbursts of Emotions and 100 Litres of Gold, a dark comedy that gives two sisters an epic hangover and 24 hours to replace 100 litres of their famed sahti homebrew. Denmark, meanwhile, offers a strong slate led by Second Victims, a psychological drama set in a stroke unit with a powerful ensemble cast, and gripping true-crime thriller The Quiet Ones. Norwegian family dramedy Everything Must Go and beloved Swedish rom-com Jalla! Jalla! (celebrating its 25th anniversary) round out the comprehensive program.
