American spirits take centre stage in this Independence Day-themed collaboration with some of Australia’s top bartenders.

The Fourth of July may not be a huge deal over here in Australia, but there’s one thing we do have in common with our American counterparts: our appreciation for a classic cocktail. That’s why for Independence Day 2022, 22 of Australia’s leading bartenders and mixologists have teamed up with Cheers! Spirits from the USA to bring us a free recipe book of Aussie-tinged cocktails that centre American spirits.

For this year’s Fourth of July celebrations, a whole host of bartenders and venues from around Australia have been tasked with putting forward their local spin on a cocktail using an American spirit. Think Dan Gregory from The Gresham’s contemporary version of the iconic Old Fashioned; Jack Patchett from Black Bottle Bar with a twist on the classic Whiskey Sour; or Talis Heggart from Memphis Slim’s House of Blues with a modern take on the Lynchburg Lemonade. Heroing local ingredients, these cocktail recipes are specifically designed for Australians to make at home.

If you want to do your research before diving into the at-home recipes, head along to any of the participating bars between Monday June 27 and Monday July 4.

In Victoria, that includes 18th Amendment Bar; Beneath Driver Lane; Bar Margaux; and Eau de Vie.

In New South Wales, participating venues include Black Bottle; Jolene’s; Grain Bar; The Barrie; Duck Duck Goose; Gellafrenda; Nola Smokehouse and Bar; Barangaroo House; Burrow Bar; and Frank Mac’s.

In Queensland, head down to The Gresham; La Costa; or Paloma Wine Bar on the Gold Coast.

And in Adelaide, it’s all about Memphis Slim’s House of Blues.

So head to your favourite cocktail bar, and don’t forget to grab your copy of the free recipe book so you can sip them all year round.
