FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and FIFA Fan Festival in Sydney
The ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup– which occurs every four years – is in Sydney in July and August.
With a schedule that spans Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand from July 20–August 20, the 2023 edition of the event will be its first ever showing in the Southern Hemisphere. The Sydney leg of the competition will see 11 matches played across both Stadium Australia at Sydney Olympic Park, and Sydney Football Stadium at Moore Park.
They include the opening game between Australia and Republic of Ireland on Thursday July 20, as well as the event’s final on Sunday August 20, both held at Stadium Australia.
Australia’s national squad – The Matildas, led by one of the world’s best scorers in captain Sam Kerr – will be looking to improve on its 2019 showing in France, where it advanced to the second round but was knocked out by Norway in a penalty shootout.
With the arrival of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 to Sydney also comes the satellite event, the FIFA Fan Festival. Located on the doorstep of the city at Darling Harbour’s Tumbalong Park, the bustling hub will feature food, drinks, all-ages entertainment options and live screenings of all the action from the competition. Entry is free.
