Family Day at Biennale of Sydney

10:00am – 5:00pm
Price: $8 to $15
From yoga to interactive performances, there’s a robust all-ages program at the Biennale of Sydney 2022.

The 23rd Biennale of Sydney is a celebration of global inclusivity, hosting a series of “conceptual wetlands and imagined ecosystems” populated by artworks, public programs and experiments.

From March 12 to June 13, the exhibition – which is titled rīvus – will transport visitors via works dotted around Sydney, including Art Gallery of New South Wales, Arts and Cultural Exchange, Barangaroo, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, National Art School in partnership with Artspace, The Rocks and Pier 2/3 at Walsh Bay Arts Precinct. The Cutaway at Barangaroo, will be the base for the Biennale’s public program, The Waterhouse, offering daily events and experiences for all of the 94 days of the exhibition.

On the first Saturday of the month throughout the run of rīvus, Family Day events will welcome children, parents carers and friends to join in on a variety of activities that explore space, art and place at The Cutaway.

You can record all the sounds, patterns, shapes and colours of water on a collaborative drawing wall, take a free family-friendly guided tour of the Biennale, unpacking the watery stories of the participants and projects, and visit the drop-in program Two Way Stream, a space for families to reflect, discuss and creatively respond to the participant artworks at The Cutaway.

Yoga teacher Beth Borowsky will run a yoga session for 4 to 8-year-olds combining traditional techniques with breathing exercises and stories that encourage mindfulness.

Artist Nadia Odlum will host Interpret this, a hybrid workshop event involving drawings and interactive games. Participants will engage in experimental and playful movement, that will teach them about visual arts, dance and architecture.

Family Day will run from 10 to 10.30am on April 2, May 7 and June 4. Tickets range from $8 to $15.
