In an opulent Spanish opera house, a string quartet performs for an audience of 2292 plants.

Gran Teatre del Liceu, an opera house in central Barcelona, has reopened after the coronavirus shutdown – with an unusual audience.

Conceived by Spanish artist Eugenio Ampudia, more than two thousand plants sit in the plush red seats. And on June 22 they were treated to a live-streamed performance by a local string quartet of Crisantemi by Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini.

After the concert, the plants were donated (with a certificate from the artist) to 2292 people who have been on the healthcare frontlines.
