Step into the future with an event hosted by Broadsheet and SOON Future Studies that looks at urban life to come.

The human population is an increasingly urban one. Today, more than half the humans on the planet live in cities – and by 2050, that’s predicted to rise to 68 per cent. How will our cities accommodate this growth and adapt to changes in technology, pressing environmental concerns and shifting human values? How will we socialise, shop, work, and eat in a world where augmented reality blends the physical and digital? What will it be like living in the Metaverse? Will we survive the climate crisis?

These questions and more are the subject of Future Cities, a new report by Broadsheet and futures thinktank SOON Future Studies that takes a deep dive into what urban living will look like in the decades ahead. And you can watch the presentation online.

Future Cities paints a fascinating picture. According to the report, the future metropolis will be social, proactively fostering human connection and moments of wonder and investing in infrastructure for the health and wellbeing of both individuals and communities. We will live in smart cities, where technology is woven into the fabric of our societies. And cities will be sustainable, embracing climate-resilient design and contributing to a zero-carbon environment. It's a world where urban agriculture, immersive streets with augmented overlays, and awe-inspiring public art are some of the features that will populate our urban landscape.

To learn more about the forces shaping urban design and what our future cities will look like, watch the Future Cities presentation presented by Broadsheet and SOON Future Studies on Thursday, December 2. It runs 4:30pm – 5:30pm and tickets are $30.
