The one-night-only art, music and food party returns in winter to celebrate this year’s Archibald Prize.

After a successful debut last year, Archie Party returns to the Art Gallery of New South Wales this July for a one-night-only affair of art, music and food. Happening on Friday July 14, Archie Party celebrates the Archibald Prize – the country’s most prestigious award for portrait painting since its inception in 1921.

Hitting the stage at this year’s party are high-octane, dance-pop masters Haiku Hands, fresh off the back of their US tour; rising hip-hop star A.Girl with her full band in tow; and Western-Sydney-via-South-Auckland rapper MRVZ. In between sets, Vyva Entertainment presents a selection of DJs, while a series of pop-up stalls and bars offer snacks, sweet treats and more from a range of restaurants and producers from across the city.

There will also be interactive art experiences from local artists, as well as late-night access to the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2023 exhibition at Lower Level 2 of the Gallery’s South Building. While the Archibald is all about portraiture, the Wynne Prize celebrates landscape painting of Australian scenery and figure sculpture, and the Sulman Prize is awarded to the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project in oil, acrylic, watercolour or mixed media. (Visitors to the exhibition can vote for their favourite portrait in the ANZ People’s Choice Award until Sunday August 6.)
