Get dressed up and see the Sydney-based artist perform tracks from her acclaimed nostalgia-inspired EP, as well as take on covers of classics from inspirational iconic divas.

Vocalist, producer and multi-disciplinary artist Rainbow Chan is coming to the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Born in Hong Kong and raised in Sydney, Chan will perform tracks from her 2021 EP, Stanley, a nostalgic record inspired by her grandmother’s mixtapes and the emotional gulf Chan’s felt during the pandemic watching her homeland change from afar.

Chan will parlay that inspiration into a one-night only celebration of idols and divas on Friday April 29. Dubbed Seven Parts Sweetness, Three Parts Tears, the evening will showcase Chan’s own familial musical inspirations as well as a celebration of iconic songs from the likes of Taiwanese pop icon Teresa Teng and C-pop stars Anita Mui and Faye Wong. To mark the occasion Chan is encouraging punters to take the “idols” theme to heart and dress to impress – be it Bowie or BTS.

Canapes will be served on arrival and guests will also have access to an exclusive after-hours viewing to The Way We Eat, an exhibition showcasing art related to food – be it ingredients and visual representations through the ages, to the production, commerce, evolution, storage and cultural exchange surrounding it.
