ACO StudioCasts: Love and Transfiguration
The Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Richard Tognetti may have celebrated 30 years as Artistic Director last year, but he’s demonstrating no signs of slowing down. For 2021, the Orchestra are pioneering a new digital complement to its live orchestral performances.
ACO StudioCasts transcends the visual and sonic experience of the concert hall into beautifully captured, arresting cinema. The third release in this series, Love & Transfiguration premieres on 19 May at 8pm AEST, and offers striking contrasts between dark and light.
The program will open with Bach’s Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesus Christ performed by Artistic Director and Lead Violinist Richard Tognetti with ACO Principals Stefanie Farrands (viola), Timo-Veikko Valve (cello) and Maxime Bibeau (double bass).
This rendition will be followed by Vox amoris, which Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks wrote for Tognetti in 2009. Sibelius’s melancholic meditation Kuolema (Finnish for death) leads into Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night), resolving the shade with promising light.
The season’s eight, one-hour performances are filmed among some of Australia’s most iconic locations.
Curious patrons can opt for a seven-day access ticket to a single film, while dedicated music lovers may prefer a full-season subscription so these orchestral offerings remain on tap all year. The latter also grants access to a library of exclusive interviews, hosted by Yumi Stynes, with Richard Tognetti, ACO musicians and special guests, along with short performances and behind-the-scenes insights.
Seven day access to Love & Transfiguration is $35. Early-bird rate for a 2021 subscription, providing access to all ACO StudioCasts throughout 2021, is $199 (valid only on purchases made before 17 February 2021). Meanwhile a standard subscription is $229, concession subscription $179, and student and under 30s subscription is $99.
