You’ll want to bring your jim-jams for this cinema experience: at Mov’in Bed, audiences curl up on queen beds for huge outdoor film screenings.

Mov’in Bed launched in Sydney in 2016, but this year it will tour Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne for the first time. Exact details and locations are still being determined, but the plan is for two-month stops in each city. Brisbane screenings are expected to start in August, followed by Perth in October and Melbourne in December, before finishing back in Sydney to close out the season.

The inflatable queen-sized beds can be configured for two people (for $73.80) or three people ($93.90), and there’s a single bed option for those who like to hog the sheets ($36.90). The ticket price includes pillows, blankets and an illuminated side table. If you’d prefer to bring your own bedding and chill on the lawn, grass tickets are available for $10 to $12.

The program hasn’t been released yet, but if the previous seasons in Sydney are anything to go by, this year’s mix will include classics, Disney, horror, rom-coms, Japanese animation and some of the latest blockbusters.

Obviously, it’s not a real movie experience without snacks. You’ll be able to buy beer, wine, lollies and popcorn from the bar. (Previous Sydney seasons have featured bottomless popcorn nights.) You can also have Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream and more substantial meals delivered to your bed. For the current Sydney season, food and drink options are provided by Rockpool Group’s Fratelli Fresh and the Bavarian; vendors for the new season are yet to be announced. This is one instance where you don’t need to worry about dropping crumbs in your sheets.
