Fifty leading local and international DJs and live acts from the dance music world will disembark on Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour next February for a brand new music and art festival. The Nowhere Festival will make its international debut from February 8–9, spread through the island’s historic tunnels, forecourts and industrial buildings. Organiser Essential Events Management plans to expand the festival to the UK, Dubai and Barcelona.
Top of the line-up are Detroit legends Carl Craig and Moodymann. Both renowned as key drivers behind the Motor City’s second-wave electronic scene, the DJs will play back-to-back sets. Also on stage will be Adiel, the Italian DJ and producer known for her Ibiza sets and a residency at Rome’s Goa Ultrabeat. And punters will get a taste of Berghain on Aussie shores (without the infamous door policy) with a set from Berghain resident, German DJ and producer Marcel Dettmann.
The local contingent is formed of artists including Reptant (Live), Adi Toohey, Mad Racket DJs, Barney Kato, Reenie, Magda Bytnerowicz, Kate Doherty, Ezra and Lorna Clarkson. Other internationals include Paul Woolford, DJ Masda, Mr Ho, Particles (Jane Fitz and Marco Shuttle), Mr G, Quest, Sampol and Christian AB.
The Nowhere Festival isn’t just about filling dancefloors, though: over the weekend, a bunch of abstract performers – including Kazuma Onishi and Miss Behave – will grace the stage, and Sydney-based artist Danny Willians will make an artwork over the two days.
Tickets go on sale at 9am on November 5, and start at $119 for one-day admission. A small number of camping packages are also available.
