Australian actress Rose Byrne has won a Golden Globe for best performance by a female actor in musical or comedy for her performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You

“This is such a shock,” she said in her acceptance speech. “I share this with Mary Bronstein, my writer and director. I can't believe she wanted me to do it... You’re just the best …  We shot this movie in 25 days for like $8.50 [so] it’s incredible to be here. Thank you to my mum and dad who bought Paramount+ so they could watch [the Golden Globes] in Sydney.”

Byrne’s performance has scored her a slew of nominations throughout awards season, including a Critics Choice Award nomination. She also won the Silver Bear at Berlin International Film Festival. So, naturally, she’s getting plenty of Oscar buzz.

She wasn’t the only Aussie nominated for a globe, but so far, she’s our only winner.

Jacob Elordi was nominated in two categories: best supporting actor for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein (in which he lost to Stellan Skarsgard in Sentimental Value) and best actor in a limited series for Aussie production A Narrow Road to the Deep North (which was taken out by Stephen Graham in Adolescence).

Sarah Snook was nominated for best actress in a limited series for the Melbourne-shot All Her Fault, but lost out to Michelle Williams. All Her Fault is also nominated for best limited series.

Joel Edgerton rounds out the list of Aussies with a nomination for best actor in a drama film for his performance in period drama Train Dreams.
