Glowstick raves, thumping music, dance-offs, wild costumes, lip-sync battles, confetti showers and comedy. This isn’t a club or a festival, it’s bingo – and far removed from what your nan does at her weekly sessions. You might start the night off cheering at “legs eleven” and end it on the dance floor with a sack of coal in your hand.
Bingo Loco has been a hit since it started in Ireland, and has sold out most of its bingo parties – more than 7000 tickets – on its three tours of Australia. It’ll be coming Down Under again in July, August and September, with former Triple J host Alex Dyson hosting the raucous rave. The event will tour through Sydney, Darwin, Melbourne, Fremantle, Brisbane and NSW’s Central Coast.
Bingo is nothing without its prizes, and Bingo Loco has some doozies – both good and bad. Past winners have been gifted bewildering prizes such as coal and lawnmowers, and more desirable prizes such as holidays to Bali.
Although on the surface Bingo Loco seems to be all fun, games and dodgy prizes, it’s got some substance to it this time. The event has partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, with proceeds from ticket sales helping fulfil the dreams of children with critical illnesses.
