It was the death of Joshua Fields Millburn’s mum and the end of his marriage that put everything in perspective for the 28-year-old. Faced with debt and depression, he began questioning every aspect of his life, especially the pursuit of the “American dream”.
He got talking with friend Ryan Nicodemus and together they discovered a lifestyle known as “minimalism”. In the pursuit of looking for something more substantial, they both walked away from six-figure careers and embarked on a new journey. “We’re not talking about an easy life, but a simple one,” says Millburn.
It was a life-changing decision. They have since published three books, including the best-selling memoir, Everything That Remains, launched a podcast, undergone a 100-city international speaking tour and made a film Minimalism: A Documentary About The Important Things.
The Minimalists, as they’re now known, have announced an Australian tour, where they will present an in-depth talk about minimalism and record a live version of their podcast series The Minimalists Podcast.
