There were joyous celebrations around the country yesterday as the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed that a majority of Australians support the legalisation of same-sex marriage.

From the steps of the State Library in Melbourne, a rainy Hindmarsh Square in Adelaide and sunny parks in Brisbane and Sydney, to Northbridge Piazza in Perth, thousands gathered for the results of the voluntary survey.

Broadsheet photographers Danika Zuks, Michael Woods, Kimberley Low, Morgan Roberts and Daniel Purvis were there to capture the historic moment. Here are some of the best photos from around the country.
