Online shopping, ATMs and Eftpos services were affected by a Telstra fault this afternoon and are ongoing. The outage started between 3pm and 4pm, and the cause has not yet been identified by Telstra. It’s affecting payments at retailers including Woolworths, Australia Post and Caltex. Banks including the Commonwealth, Westpac, NAB and ANZ have confirmed they’re also having issues with ATMs, Eftpos and logins to online banking services.

According to the ABC, the issue relates to a payment processing network operated by Telstra, which has impacted all banks in some way. However, it only appears to be affecting low-value transactions.

“We’re currently looking into an issue affecting services including EFTPOS and access to ATMs. We’re sorry if this impacts you. We’ll keep you updated as we know more,” Telstra said in a statement on Twitter.
