Victoria’s Department of Health and Human Services has said those who attended the Golden Plains festival over the Labour Day long weekend are not at increased risk of coronavirus following one festivalgoer's positive diagnosis.
“The department has completed its investigation into a case of COVID-19 linked to the Golden Plains music festival. The individual who has been confirmed to have COVID-19 infection was not unwell with the infection at the festival,” a spokesperson for the department said in a statement.
“As a result, no further public-health action is required by festivalgoers.”
The annual festival is held near the Victorian town of Meredith and typically attracts more than 10,000 attendees, as well as large numbers of staff and volunteers.
Iconic American band the Pixies headlined the festival, and they have since postponed the rest of their Australian tour, citing “current public-health concerns” in a statement on their Facebook page.
The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services has set up a hotline for people seeking information on COVID-19, but warned large quantities of calls would likely result in delays.
More information on the symptoms and transmission of the disease can be found on the department’s website.
