For the past 30 years Raes and its iconic curved white walls and terracotta-tiled steps have been synonymous with Byron Bay’s non-stop holiday lifestyle. To mark the brand’s 30th anniversary – and to meet growing demand – the boutique hotel has expanded with a second property, offering 10 additional suites, two pools and chic common areas.

Raes Guesthouse is just steps away from the original hotel, and is designed by Tamsin Johnson, who was also behind Raes' 2016 refurb. She says its effortlessly cool coastal aesthetic draws from Spanish-Hollywood and Balearic influences while nodding to the original hotel. Pastels, subtle touches of blue and green, hand-painted joinery, and one-off vintage pieces elevate every area.

Each of the 10 suites has a king-sized bed with a custom headboard and sweeping views of Wategos Beach. Several suites offer private balconies with sun lounges. Downstairs among tropical gardens, cabanas and deck chairs there is one 16-meter pool with a waterfall and another 12-meter pool with solar heating.

The Guesthouse has a new menu from Raes executive chef Jason Saxby. Menu highlights include oysters with the Raes signature dressing, a swordfish katsu sando, a reimagined take on the retro prawn cocktail and seafood pasta. There’s also a Negroni-infused frozen watermelon.

Individual and venue-wide bookings are available now.
