Experience Yayoi Kusama’s visionary artworks in person and you’ll never see the world the same way again. The influential Japanese artist’s signature polka dots adorn the NGV International’s ground-floor area and are spread joyfully throughout the arts precinct as part of the largest ever exhibition of Kusama’s work in Australia.
If you’re not from Melbourne, you’re in luck: the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) is giving you the chance to win a Kusama experience for two, including flights from your nearest capital city to Melbourne and a night’s stay at the Hilton Melbourne Little Queen Street.
Yayoi Kusama features nearly 200 works, including paintings, sculpture, fashion and collages, plus rarely seen pieces from private collections. The exhibition also includes video and the artist’s famous infinity rooms, including a new one created especially for the NGV, where you can immerse yourself in a three-dimensional kaleidoscope.
Don’t miss (you can’t miss, really) the Australian debut of the six-metre-high The Hope of the Polka Dots Buried in Infinity Will Eternally Cover the Universe, whose tentacles dominate the space – to truly appreciate its scale and mind-altering form, you need to walk through it and around it.
Follow your exhibition visit with lunch and drinks at the NGV Garden Restaurant, which overlooks the gallery’s tranquil sculpture garden. Take a seat inside, bathed in natural light from the dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows, or dine out on the terrace for fresh air. The menu is dictated by the season’s produce so you can expect to experience delicious summer flavours.
You and your guest will also each receive a souvenir Yayoi Kusama catalogue in hardback (the cover is designed by the artist herself), so you can relive your experience after the exhibition closes on April 21.
To go in the drawn to win this great prize, enter your details here. The winner will be drawn on February 21st, 2025 and must be over 18 to enter.
