The NGV’s current blockbuster exhibition, Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality and Cai Guo-Qiang: The Transient Landscape, is billed as “a dual presentation of Chinese art and culture past and present”. That translates as a rare opportunity to see one of the world’s most priceless artefacts in our own backyard.
So we’re celebrating with a giveaway tailored around the exhibition, in the spirit of a weekend away.
One winner and a friend will receive access to the exhibition, which features the Terracotta Warriors – and even more ancient items dating back to 1000 BC – alongside five new works from feted contemporary Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang.
These include two porcelain installations, and three new gunpowder paintings commissioned by the NGV – Flow (Cypress), Transience II (Peony) and Pulse (Mountain) – produced during a series of gunpowder explosions in an old shipbuilding warehouse in Williamstown.
You’ll also receive return flights to Melbourne from your nearest capital city, and tickets to an instalment of the Gallery’s late-night music series NGV Friday Nights, featuring the likes of Maribelle, GRAACE, Thandi Phoenix, Brisbane-based artists and producers LÂLKA and Young Franco, and New Zealand’s ethereal pop four-piece Yumi Zouma. Enjoy dinner and drinks at the Hutong Dumpling Bar pop-up, then following the festivities bed down in a classic king room at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, waking to a buffet breakfast for two.
