The National Gallery of Victoria’s annual frock-up is one of Melbourne’s marquee events. The regularly sold-out NGV Gala Celebration combines the opening of a blockbuster exhibition with a feast from one of the world’s best chefs and a one-off gig by an internationally renown artist.
This year is no different. On November 30 the city will welcome the NGV’s new exhibition, Keith Haring | Jean-Michel Basquiat: Crossing Lines. As well as helping to usher in a new era of contemporary art in the early ’80s, Haring and Basquiat were both part of a New York City underground era that also birthed hip-hop, MCing and turntablism.
So it’s apt the musical guests for the evening will be New York’s own Salt-N-Pepa – the multi-million selling duo best known for tracks such as Push it and Let’s Talk About Sex – who emerged from the borough of Queens in New York City in 1985. As an exclusive Australian performance from the hip-hop group, this combo of art and music feels unmissable – certainly when paired with the presence of Momofuku Seiobo chef Paul Carmichael, who will serve a Caribbean-inspired feast to all lucky enough to be in the room.
All this can be yours. Taking place on Saturday November 30, you and a friend will win flights for two from the nearest capital city (if not in Melbourne). You’ll receive two tickets to the NGV Gala Celebration to swan around in your finest while taking in some of New York’s most iconic art and music, before laying your head down on a pillow at Melbourne Hotel for the Arts, Sofitel Melbourne on Collins.
Entries are open now until November 21. To enter, fill out the form below. Full terms and conditions here.
