French painter Pierre Bonnard is one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Nearly 80 years after his death, Bonnard’s paintings that depict intimate domestic moments, natural landscapes, and urban scenes with an inventive approach to colour and light see him as a key figure in the evolution from Impressionism to Modernism.
Bonnard is now the subject of a major world-premiere exhibition, Pierre Bonnard: Designed by India Mahdavi, presented by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in partnership with the Musée d’Orsay. Commissioned by the NGV to create the exhibition’s scenography is Paris-based architect and designer India Mahdavi, once described by the New Yorker as a “virtuoso of colour,” the exhibition is on now until Sunday October 8.
